AWS appstream2: Describe unified graphics image behavior in managed updates

Service: appstream2 · 2026-09-30 · Documentation low

File: appstream2/latest/developerguide/keep-image-updated-managed-image-updates.md

Summary

Adds explanation that managed image updates convert generation-specific graphics images into unified graphics images, re-tagging for expanded instance-family compatibility and validating driver compatibility.

Security assessment

Describes image update mechanics and driver compatibility; no security control or vulnerability addressed.

Evidence

+When you update a generation-specific graphics image (for example, a Graphics G6 image), managed WorkSpaces Applications image updates produce a unified graphics image. WorkSpaces Applications selects an appropriate instance type to launch a temporary image builder, re-tags the image with expanded instance-family compatibility, and validates driver compatibility, which might require a driver update. After the update completes, the image shows compatibility with all supported graphics families. For more information, see [Unified graphics images](./unified-graphics-images.html).
