AWS iot: Add multi-frame GNSS measurement type to Device Location docs

Service: iot · 2026-09-27 · Documentation low

File: iot/latest/developerguide/device-location.md

Summary

Documents the new multi-frame GNSS measurement type and solver, notes GNSS and multi-frame GNSS are mutually exclusive in a single request, and updates the measurement data list.

Security assessment

The change only adds a new location measurement type and clarifies mutual exclusivity of GNSS request types; it has no authentication, encryption, or exposure implications.

Evidence

+Multi-frame GNSS scan data (multiple NAV messages from the same device) | Multi-frame GNSS solver | General IoT devices

For Wi-Fi, Cellular, and IP address measurement types, if the devices publish the measurement data to the [reserved topics](./device-location-reserved-topics.html) in the defined GeoJSON format, AWS IoT Core Device Location can resolve the location of the device. For GNSS measurement type, the device must have the LR11xx chip to scan the measurement data for obtaining the resolved location information using the GNSS solver. +
+The GNSS and multi-frame GNSS measurement types are mutually exclusive. A single request can use the `Gnss` measurement type to resolve the location from a single NAV message capture, or the `GnssMultiFrame` measurement type to resolve the location from multiple NAV message captures from the same device, but it can't contain both in the same request.
