Summary

Added documentation for Dataset Q&A access for Professional subscribers including permission boundaries and access controls

Security assessment

The change documents security controls by explicitly defining permissions (View-only access), restrictions (no editing capabilities), and access mechanisms (group/folder-based sharing). It clarifies security boundaries but doesn't address a specific vulnerability.

## Dataset Q&A for Professional subscribers

Dataset Q&A enables users to ask natural language questions directly against a dataset and receive AI-generated answers grounded in the underlying data. Previously, Dataset Q&A was available only to Author personas (Enterprise license holders) who could access datasets to build dashboards and analyses.

Starting June 1, 2026, Dataset View permissions are available for Professional subscribers (Reader Pro). Professional subscribers can now see shared datasets, view the schema (dataset name, description, column names, and column descriptions), and use Chat to ask natural language questions against the data.

###### Note

This change does not grant Professional subscribers any authoring capabilities. Professional subscribers cannot create analyses, edit datasets, or modify schema. Access is strictly View and Q&A for shared datasets.

### Access for already shared datasets

Professional subscribers automatically gain Dataset View access if they meet either of the following criteria:

  * They are a member of an Amazon Quick Sight group where a dataset has been shared.

  * They are a member of a folder that contains shared datasets.

No action is required from authors or admins – existing sharing configurations automatically extend Dataset View access to Professional subscribers who are already part of these groups or folders.

### To share datasets with Professional subscribers

To give Professional subscribers Dataset View access to additional datasets, use one of the following methods:

  * Add the Professional subscriber to an Amazon Quick Sight group, then share the dataset with that group. The Professional subscriber automatically receives View access to the dataset.

  * Place the dataset in a folder where the Professional subscriber has membership. The Professional subscriber automatically inherits View access through the folder.

In both cases, Professional subscribers receive View-only access. They can see the dataset schema and use Dataset Q&A but cannot edit or create analyses from the dataset.

### What Professional subscribers can do with shared datasets

The following list summarizes the permissions that Professional subscribers have for shared datasets.

  * **Can** – View the Dataset Details page (see schema including dataset name, description, column names, and column descriptions).

  * **Can** – Chat against the dataset using Q&A (ask natural language questions and receive AI-generated answers).

  * **Cannot** – Create analyses from the dataset.

  * **Cannot** – Edit datasets (no transformations, no schema changes).
