AWS code-library high security documentation change
Summary
Enhanced AWS IoT Device Defender setup script with improved error handling, JSON validation, retry logic, prerequisite checks, and resource cleanup procedures. Added input validation for IAM policies, AWS CLI dependency checks, and robust error handling throughout.
Security assessment
The changes implement critical security best practices including: 1) JSON validation for IAM policies preventing malformed policies that could cause misconfigurations, 2) Input sanitization through jq parsing to prevent injection attacks, 3) Added error handling for IAM role creation with retry logic to prevent partial configurations, 4) Validation of trust policies before creation to prevent privilege escalation risks, 5) Security-focused resource cleanup procedures with policy detachment safeguards. These changes directly address potential security weaknesses in resource provisioning.
